Science - Plants
Wow! A big thank you to Mlle E for coming to our class and helping us set up our Earth Box. We are about to start our plant unit in Science. We usually complete this unit in the spring, but with this earth box and light set up, we can grow plants indoors all winter long! The Grade 4 and 5 classes have boxes in their classrooms and we are looking forward to sharing the vegetables and herbs we are growing. Our class is growing carrots and basil. YUM! This is like having a class pet! We love our plant box, and the students are looking forward to reading to the plants, maybe even some singing! We have started observation booklets and look forward to watching our plants grow!

Halloween
is so much fun! We had a great day here in 4c! The kids had gym, music, some Language arts, and swimming lessons completed our morning. Then the afternoon was our annual costume parade, followed by centers in the Grade 4 classrooms. We split our classes into groups of 3 and spent 20min or so in each room. In Mr. D's room, the students played Halloween Bingo. In Ms. E's room, the students made spider webs and spiders. In our room, we created Halloween subway art. It was a great day! Best behaviour too amidst the excitement! Well done, Grade 4's!
Your favourite Grade 4 teachers!! :-)

Pulleys
We are discovering how simple machines are used to make our work easier. We use scientific terms such as load, effort, force, and mechanical advantage to describe what we are doing and seeing. Here, the students are experimenting with pulleys. They created a fixed pulley system, a moveable pulley system, and a system that combines both fixed and moveable pulleys.
Strategies
Working with 3 digit and 4 digit numbers can get confusing. We have been experimenting with different strategies to use when we add these larger numbers. Students always enjoy working with the base 10 blocks, helping their number sense.
We have started our Day 5 center based learning here in 4C. One center was called, "How many ways can you make _____?" These students were excited and did a great job coming up with many equations to make 10 and to make 24.
Another center involved spelling our weekly spelling words with letter tiles. This student did a great job all on his own!
