How do I study?
*Draw pictures of the 3 types of levers and label where the fulcrum, effort and load are.
*Draw examples from the sheet we did in class with different objects. Label the fulcrum, effort and load, and say whether or not it's a 1st, 2nd or 3rd class lever. Check your answer with the sheet we did.
*Memorize - 1st class lever, the fulcrum is ALWAYS in the middle.
-2nd class lever, the load is in the middle.
-3rd class lever, the effort is in the middle.
FISHING ROD - Fulcrum in the handle end of the rod... the effort in the middle of the rod and the load on the end where the fish is caught. ------------- 3rd class lever.
NUT CRACKER - Fulcrum is at this left hand end where the screw is. The load is the nut in the middle and the effort on the end with the handles. ----------------- 2nd class lever.
A lever is an arm which tilts around the fulcrum ( a pivot) to provide useful motion. Levers make work easier because they amplify force, or change the direction of the force or magnify the distance an object is moved. A lever is a simple machine that makes work easier. It can aid in moving, lifting, etc.
