Summer is almost here...

Think of summer as ‘Some More’ Learning

During the Summer Have Your Kids Read Everyday
What better choice to have than to read outside on the porch or in the backyard while soaking up the sun. Join in with them, read aloud their favorite book, no matter how many times you have read it. Pick a time everyday where you all stop and read as a family together. Nothing will stimulate a child faster than to have adults reading with them.
During the Summer Find Other Ways to Stimulate the Kids
Show your child the other things to do that keeps them involved and still stimulates them. If you are planning a family trip, have them check out the map and brochures. Let your child go online and research where they are going and what there is to see. When you go out to eat, keep a menu at your table until your food arrives.  Have your child mentally add prices, and how much they could get for under $20.00.
During the Summer Improve Their Writing Skills
Learning to organize your thoughts into a logical manner is a writing skill that is often lost. To help your child, have them write about thing during the summer. If you child has a passion for something such as animals, have them write a short report about them to share with the family. If you are going on a trip, have your child keep a travel journal to be shared with family and friends when you return.

And don't forget... http://www.blackgold.ab.ca/ict/Divison2/IndexdivisionII.htm  is the best place to go for online practice!

Puff Adder

In Language Arts, we read a story called, "The Puff Adder".
After reading the story, we wrote a sequel, and then we created our own Puff Adders! Ask your child what they learned about snakes in this story!

Health

This week we have separated the boys and girls and have been learning about the changes that will occur to us during puberty.   The kids have been very mature and have handled our discussions well.  Some are scared or worried, but they have been assured that this is all NORMAL!   This would be a good chance for you, to talk to your child about how you felt when the changes occured in your life.  We have presented many options with telling the students they will need to talk to their parents to help them make the best choice for them at their age.
