Netbooks

Due to a new netbook cart in the school, we have been receiving a lot more time on the netbooks. This has greatly enhanced student engagement. Here, they are writing a letter to the president of a TV station. The TV station has threatened to cancel the cartoon channel and replace it with a 24 hour news station. In this writing, we are focusing on a strategy called Cause and Effect. The students have brainstormed how this would effect children, parents, and cartoons artists. The students are very concerned that if it was cancelled, their parents would make them do more chores around the house!!! :-)

Parts of Flower Quiz

Students will be required to label this diagram for their quiz on Friday.  The bottom missing label is SEPAL.  All words should be spelled correctly.
General knowledge:
PETALS:  Attract insects and birds to aid in pollination
STAMEN:  Where the pollen is produced (made)
PISTIL: Seed development occurs in the Ovary, and the Stigma is the sticky tip when the pollen must land during pollination
SEPAL: protect the inside parts of a flower when it's still a bud
LEAVES: where photosynthesis takes place

Bean Seed

Did you know that this seed has germinated and started to grow just from being inside a moist plastic bag! No soil required!

Scavenger Hunt

We have been learning about plants in Science. We have learned the different parts to a plant, and what a plant needs to survive. We have also learned about the jobs of the different parts, including photosynthesis.
Yesterday, the students participated in a fun scavenger hunt activity. 18 information cards were hid around the room, and as they searched for the cards, they had to answer questions on their sheet based on the fact card they found. The kids had a great time!

It's true! It's really true! We have growth and lots of it! We replanted our Earth Boxes after burning the last batch of seeds! The kids are so excited to see carrots and basil coming in. :-)
