Pink Shirt Day

On Wednesday, we celebrated Pink Shirt Day.  It was a sea of pink throughout the school as we took our stand against bullies.  It was a good reminder to me, that it's not just kids that are bullies, but adults too.  We all need to be careful of our words and actions towards others.
In class, we broke into 3 groups and took turns discussing what it would be like to be the bully, the bullied and the bystander.   The conversation was rich.   Following that, we chose 1 stance and wrote a poem from that perspective.  Some of the students will be reading their poems to the school during our monthly assembly!  Please feel free to come and listen. They are powerful.

Sun Shadows

We had fun in Science this afternoon.  We left Mexico (aka our classroom) and headed for the beautiful outdoors in Leduc!   Once outside, we used cameras and took pictures of shadows that we found or created.  It was a lot of fun experimenting with shadows.   We have learned about how the sun as our light source will hit an opaque object and create a shadow.   The higher the sun is in the sky, the shorter our shadow.  Here are some of the pictures the kids took!  Maybe some future photographers out there?!

Now, the students are busy creating a poster with their pictures that we printed off and writing what they know about the position of the sun and shadows.

The Acronairs...

The Acronairs came to visit ECPS today!  2 of our students in the school are the youngest members of this troupe.  We enjoyed the show!!!

Mrs. Fisher and Mlle El-Khatib were lifted right off the ground!
Dean, Samantha and Calley were called up too!

Daily 5 + CAFE

With our Daily 5 program, we have begun the next part of the journey... CAFE.  This is where we will really focus on different reading strategies to become better readers.  C= Comprehension  A= Accuracy  F = Fluency   E = Expand Vocabulary

Here the students are demonstrating how they use Check for Understanding as they read.   We have also learned to Cross Check when we come across a word we don't know, and we have tuned our ears into Interesting Words.

I'm really excited to see each and every student become a better reader as they use their strategies.

Working with the Grade 3's

We rocked out an Olympic activity with the English Grade 3's while Mrs. Stewart worked with some other teachers.   It was fun creating our own Olympic Sport!
